This 5000 SF, 5 BR, 4 bath new custom home with 3-car garage is a rare example of a single, newly-developed property in the middle of San Diego. Although the construction was free of many of the spatial constraints and the unforeseen inherent to remodeling an existing structure, the project presented a series of geometric obstacles and challenging installations. Constructed on a wedge-shaped lot this “modern-Mediterranean” features a combination of difficult angles, challenging layout and exquisite craftsmanship and materials. The exterior boasts a clay-tile roof, Santa Barbara plaster finish, sanctuary-like main courtyard with drought-tolerant landscaping and impressive stamped concrete and paver driveways and walkways. The interior shows off magazine-quality woodwork and moulding crafted from knotty alder and coated with a stain-and-glaze finish, all performed “in-house” by J. Walsh Construction, Inc. The majestic entry is framed by a unique staircase built from wood and wrought-iron and is decorated with birdcage-like wrought-iron chandeliers. The developer’s favorite detail is the “cathedral” living room ceiling with alder beams and tongue-and-groove planking. In addition, an oval sitting room separates the entry from the kitchen and is ringed by a travertine-tiled hallway of complementary shape. Fixtures throughout the home are oil-rubbed bronze and the bathroom tile work showcases marble, travertine & limestone. As always, J Walsh Construction worked closely with the developer to perform and manage fine-quality material selection and installation.
