Originally established in 1997, J. Walsh Construction, Inc. is an award-winning, licensed builder and general contractor in San Diego, California. Specializing in contemporary home construction and the restoration & renovation of historic properties, the company is a trusted resource for top-quality projects which unite thoughtful design & architecture with functional, long-lasting construction.

Under the leadership of Founder and President Jon Walsh, the company incorporates a deep-rooted passion for architectural design and construction. 

Recognized as a premier resource for the construction and remodeling of traditional and contemporary homes and for the renovation and expansion of historic homes, JWC is experienced with all phases of planning, construction and post-construction services.

JWC’s commitment to excellence has been recognized with the prestigious Home of the Year Award (2014) by San Diego Home / Garden Lifestyles for the complete remodel and expansion of an historic Irving Gill home near Balboa Park, and selection for the San Diego Modern Home Tour in 2018 and 2023.

Founder

Jon Walsh, founder and President of J. Walsh Construction, Inc., provides ultimate oversight to ensure each project is completed in a timely and accurate manner. Walsh began his career working for CNN in New York City but, partially inspired by his father, a successful New York architect, chose to follow another passion. 

After starting as a carpenter’s apprentice, Jon rose to the rank of journeyman carpenter and refined his skills as a builder in collaboration with New York City artisans and European craftsmen. He spent a number of years as a design-build supervisor in New York, under the tutelage of a Yale-trained architect prior to founding the initial inception of Walsh Construction in 1997. Having relocated to San Diego in the early 2000s, Jon worked as a foreman and re-opened the business as J. Walsh Construction, Inc in 2005.

Team

J. Walsh Construction. Inc. is composed of a select group of managers, supervisors, tradesmen and laborers who work together to complete a project. Many of our valued team members have been with us for over a decade, and have the experience and temperament to handle unforeseen challenges. 
 
Our core belief is that successful design and construction projects are founded on creativity, collaboration and communication. Supporting this belief is a methodology which places absolute priority on defining a scope of work, establishing clear design specifications and strategizing a timely schedule.
